About Barbara
Barbara has been painting in Maine and making art since as for back as she can remember.
“Nature has always been where I feel myself most authentically. When I sit and paint, time stops. I’ve always hoped to convey that experience of nature in my paintings. My college essay was about doing more artwork and painting later in life. Making art felt like too solitary an existence, so my focus turned to acting and singing in my 20s and 30s.
As a single mom with four children, life took over, so my art often involved doing projects with the kids. I always had pencil and paper handy for all of us, which I considered preferable to television. My mother was the same with us when we were little. Going back another generation, my grandfather, who was an architect, and his friends painted watercolors in Maine.”
Barbara was an art major at Smith College.
